Chess and westerns can seem an unusual couple, but this is the case in this movie, where the bad guy, gunslinger John Gant (Audie Murphy), and the good guy, doctor Luke Canfield (Charles Drake), play a match, not without a certain symbolic meaning which reminds a little to The Seventh Seal. Previuously, we also see two elder citizens playing the game.
