Las cartas de Alou (Montxo Armendáriz, 1990)

Film: Las cartas de Alou (Letters from Alou)
Game: Checkers
Moncef (Ahmed El-Maaroufi) teaches Alou (Mulie Jarju) to play checkers well with an improvised peebles set. Then they play at a bar with the patrons, the owner and his daughter (Eulalia Ramón) and win some money. Alou plays again with the owner (Albert Vidal) when he comes back to the bar, and Moncef and him are supposed to play again with coins when they meet again on the boat, but we don't get to see it.
In a movie with racism as one of its main topics, the presence of a game about "white" and "black" pieces is more than deliberate.
