Chess is practically a leitmotiv in the X-Men film series, and Magneto (Ian McKellen/Michael Fassbender) and Xavier (Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy) keep playing it against each other throughout the films. In fact, very often they compare their real life confrontations with a chess match.
