Even though this is not exactly a "chess movie", this board game has a big importance in it: not only do we see several sets and even a full tournament sequence (the protagonist is an avid player), but the whole movie plot is some kind of chess play, as the "bad one" states late in the film. To emphasize this metaphor, the director frequently uses floors with black and white tiles.
